“Piano runs and drum fills complement the sweet harmonies that display a delightful innovation and briskness”
-Huffington Post June 2017
“It’s uniqueness is unlike anything brought to the Canadian music scene, which will undoubtedly place Only A Visitor on the map.”
-Gig Soup Music
Described by CBC Music as one of 10 Vancouver acts to watch, Only A Visitor is a quintet that blurs genre boundaries by straddling the line between art music and pop. Classically trained, composer and arranger Robyn Jacob’s eclectic songwriting showcases vocal techniques and arrangements that invoke the Dirty Projectors and Bjork. With asymmetrical rhythms twisted around a pop skeleton, Only A Visitor makes room for themselves between pop and experimental music.
Joined in 2015 by drummer Kevin Romain, bassist Jeff Gammon, and singers Emma Postl and Celina Kurz, Only A Visitor released their EP Tower Temporary. In summer of 2017 they released their first full length album Lines, which was followed by a tour of Eastern Canada, including the Montreal, Toronto and Halifax International Jazz Festivals. In the fall of 2016 Robyn completed a solo music residency at the Banff Centre to work on the newest album Technicolour Education, which was released January 2019, followed by touring across Canada and the US.
